Why you should hire me for your team at Homebase

I'm driven enough to make this website (and maybe a little crazy). I love the work you're doing at Homebase and I want to showcase why I'm the best candidate for the job of Strategic Finance Associate.Plus I think telling my friends and family I'm a "Homie" sounds awesome.

Why do I want to join Homebase?

I love the mission. I love that Homebase is making it easier for small companies to have an all-in-one platform to stay organized and keep on top of things - all while being reasonably priced.Being able to help people save time on manual and labourous tasks is one of my favourite things to do at all of the jobs I've had (automated processes at CIBC and Harris Computer). Homebase seems like the perfect place to hone those skills and help small businesses manage their time in a better way. Take a look at my resume for my experience.

What differentiates me?

I'm a self starter. Whether it's training a new intern and manning the desk by myself at CIBC Capital Markets, or learning how to cold call, I take pride in figuring shit out.

  • By any means, I'm getting the work done. I think the idea of permissionless work to finish tasks is highly motivational.

  • I like to learn. I've explored the Google Data Analytics course to give me an edge when it comes to driving insights and honing my skills in utilizing data correctly.

  • I've done many different jobs, so whether it's basic data cleanup to researching competition, no task is too small for me.

Just a cool shot I took that I think you'll enjoy.

Why does Homebase appeal to me?

I'll be honest. I'm looking to make a transition into strategic finance because I believe it's the future.Strategic finance is shaping the future because it's like having a trusted guide in a maze of business challenges. It blends financial smarts with forward-thinking strategy.I worked in banking and loved it, but didn't feel as though I could make long-term impact. It taught me a lot about what it takes to do work that's consultative in nature. I work in sales because I'm good with people, but quickly learned I'm far more interested in technology and helping people with driving insights with data. Is this career pivot something I'm sure about? Absolutely.I also love the fact that I'd be helping real people and real businesses with Homebase, and I wouldn't just be a cog in the machine. I'd drive real action which is something that's important to me.Seeing case studies and reviews on the Homebase website makes me genuinely believe there's good work being done, and I'm extremely excited by that fact.

Strengths

My strengths lie within the ability to figure s**t out and get things done. I'm analytical and have a huge interest in data-backed decision making, so I've been known to derive solutions and insights from work that's been given to me.It's very much a work in progress, but I know I have a genuine passion for this industry.I'm also a great people person. I bring the vibes and a positive attitude with me everywhere I go! (I also made this site in an afternoon so that's another thing).

Weaknesses

I'm known to not ask questions sometimes and am adamant to spend time on a task that I know I can figure out, I just need time.Sometimes I know it's better to ask someone who's done it before and I'm actively working on getting better at this. I have a sticky note on my laptop that says "DON'T BE SHY! ASK FOR HELP!"

FAQ

Why should we hire you?
Because I take ownership! I want to do good work.
What drives you to do good work?
The ability to make an impact and not just be a cog in the machine.
What's one thing you're passionate about at Homebase?
Helping people. Having friends and family that own small businesses, I know what a toll it can be when managing finance, time sheets, and even inventory. Homebase making it easier for people and allowing them to breathe gives me some hope for the small business industry in Canada.
Why are you ideal for this role?
My background in M&A research, banking at CIBC Capital Markets, and sales, have allowed me to hone my skills with financial modelling, research skills, and data manipulation to make me a well rounded individual. I've got 16 months of work experience under my belt and I graduated in 4 years still. It's that ability to multi-task and the ability to prioritize that has gotten me this far. I bring a fresh perspective and an attitude to work hard to the workplace.
What's one strength and one weakness you have?
A good strength of mine is being open to feedback. Whether it's good or bad, I make sure to always apply it.
A weakness of mine is not having the chance to practice technical skills at my current jon. Although I learn very easily and pick up on things, so this is something I'm always trying to improve and incorporate in my day to day. What do you do in your free time?
I love hanging out with friends and discussing new things. Love following F1 (Lewis and Ferrari dominance coming soon). I also enjoy nature and hiking, and for the last 7 months I've taken up Muay Thai as a workout!
If chosen, what would your long-term goals be?
My goal is to continue honing my skills in data and increasing my knowledge in the field. I think it's the future, and as much as people say ChatGPT will take the industry over, I personally see strategic finance as the biggest need within businesses in the coming years.
